The Momentree venture was a part of my Innovation project at the University of Bristol with my colleague Victoria Legrand and was powered by a talented team of developers, and designers, including Noor Alizah (Back-End Developer), Fandy Ramadhan (Front-End Developer), Alif Muslim (Designer) and Zaki Hidayat (Designer).

This design document, prepared for Fahmi Zufarian, co-founder of Momentree Indonesia, outlines the process, progress, and findings related to Momentree’s planned market expansion. Founded in 2022 in Jakarta, Momentree offers an all-in-one digital invitation and guest management solution, with services including customizable event templates and a VIP on-site guest reception service.

As part of my innovation project, my colleague and I explored expanding Momentree into a new market. Using the stage-gate model for structured research, we adapted strategies based on real-time insights.

Initially launched in Indonesia, this case study explores its expansion into the UK market, focusing on tailored research with a wide range of methodologies such as interviews, focus groups, card sorting and more.

Research & Strategy:

  • Market Selection: The UK was identified for its high internet penetration and strong demand for innovative event solutions.

  • Sector Focus: The platform targeted weddings and corporate events due to their profitability and alignment with existing features.

  • User Insights: Research methods included interviews, role-play exercises, and focus groups to uncover customer pain points and preferences.

Development Process:

  • Feature Prototyping: Based on findings, Momentree introduced features like collaborative photo galleries, RSVP management, and dietary preference tracking.

  • Usability Testing: Clickable prototypes were rigorously tested with users, leading to iterative refinements.

  • MVP Launch: The final MVPs were tested in real-world events, with features validated through heat mapping and client feedback.

The Momentree venture plan presents a comprehensive roadmap for scaling operations in the UK market, emphasizing sustainability and innovation in the event management space. The plan outlines a strategic approach, leveraging market insights and financial projections to secure scalability and profitability. Key elements include a tiered pricing model, tailored service packages, and partnerships with high-end venues and influencers to establish a strong presence. The plan also addresses risk mitigation, emphasizing a phased market entry starting with London, Bristol, and Jersey.

The venture’s lean start-up approach ensures efficient resource allocation and agility in adapting to market feedback. With profitability projected by year two, Momentree is poised to redefine event management standards.
